Durham County Commissioners approved an $87 million bond package for major infrastructure projects at their January 22 meeting, marking the board's largest financial commitment of the session. The limited obligation bonds will fund four initiatives: renovations to a shopping center that will house the Board of Elections office, construction of the Snow Hill Road Pump Station, public safety improvements to school facilities, and a new parking facility on the 500 block of East Main Street. The board held a public hearing on the measure but received no public comments, and commissioners voted unanimously to move forward.
In other major business, the board approved $1,090,600 in fully reimbursable funding for a parking lot expansion at Lincoln Community Health Center. Wendy Jacobs noted the project has been in development for a long time and expressed confidence that staff at the health center would greatly appreciate the additional parking space.
