Sergio Ramos spent years behind the bar at Bar Brunello before the pandemic closed it in 2020. Five years later, he opened his own place. Pinheiro, Vinho e Vida debuted March 20 at 304 South Driver Street in East Durham, built around Portuguese and Spanish wines and the Iberian heritage Ramos inherited from his Brazilian and Portuguese parents.
- The bar seats 34, with 8 spots at a communal table. About 10 wines rotate by the glass, with retail bottles available to open in-house or take home.
- Ramos holds credentials from the Society of Wine Educators and Wines of Portugal. He plans to prioritize producers underrepresented by region, gender, or background, including female, LGBTQ+, and indigenous winemakers.
- Cheese and charcuterie are coming once Ramos locks in a vendor.
The 304 South Driver block already holds Ideal's Sandwich Shop, Sofia's Pizza, and Dame's Chicken and Waffles. The street has added more food and drink in the last three years than it did in the decade before.
