What the city announced

West Point on the Eno Park at 5253 N. Roxboro St. will close in July and stay shut through January 2027 while Durham Parks and Recreation upgrades the site for ADA compliance. No public access, by vehicle or on foot, during that stretch.

The Capital Improvement Program is funding the work. The focus is parking lots and pedestrian paths throughout the park, making them accessible to visitors of all abilities.

What stays open and what moves

The Environmental Education Pavilion, directly north of the park, will remain open through construction. Programs that were booked at West Point on the Eno will shift to other Durham Parks and Recreation facilities, including the pavilion.

No programming will run inside the park while construction is active.

The mill question

The historic mill is a separate matter. Repairs to the structure are not part of this ADA project. The city says options are still being explored to fix and reopen the mill after it took damage from Tropical Storm Chantal. No timeline has been announced for that work.
