The opening
M Hansik, the newest restaurant from M Restaurants, is scheduled to open June 19 in the former Plum Southern Kitchen space at the Shops at Wye Junction in Durham. The 54-seat room will run limited seating through June 23 before the grand opening on June 24.
The food
M Hansik is chef Michael Lee's first restaurant built around Korean cuisine, described as a modern take on traditional dishes. Korea is Lee's birthplace, and he built his Durham reputation through M Sushi.
The menu already posted online spans kimchi dumplings, Pyongyang naengmyeon (a cold noodle dish), galbi (marinated short ribs), and hotteok, a brown sugar-filled pancake, for dessert.
More Korean food in Durham
Durham's Korean food options have expanded in recent months. A Dosirak Korean convenience store is slated to open this summer on W. Main, bringing another permanent Korean food option to a city where the cuisine has historically been harder to find than in larger metro areas.
