Jesse Gerstl opened Soif at 331 West Main Street in early March. The bar is 593 square feet, Italian in model, and has no WiFi.

  • Soif is in the Snow Building on West Main. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and midnight on weekends.
  • Gerstl also owns Delafia, the natural wine bar on Foster Street. Soif is a different concept: espresso-forward, counter service.

The no-WiFi policy is the whole thesis. Gerstl is building a place to drink something and talk to someone, not work. Downtown Durham now has a bar for that.
